What to wear this week
Built for packing, not just today
This page is for planning ahead — packing for a trip or laying out a working week — rather than a single morning. It builds up to seven days starting today (or tomorrow, once today's hours up to 9 pm are over), and each day uses its own National Weather Service hourly forecast for that day's local 7 am to 9 pm window, the same way the home page reads today's.
The forecast gets less detailed the further out it goes. Once a day sits beyond where the hourly forecast reaches, it falls back to that day's forecast high and low instead of an hour-by-hour picture, and is marked so you know it's a rougher estimate.
The packing list counts how many days each item is needed for, so you can see at a glance what to bring for the whole trip. It writes "Umbrella" if any day needs a full-size one, and "Compact umbrella" only when every day that needs an umbrella needs just the small one.
Dressing for something?
How we worked this out
The forecast comes from the National Weather Service, hour by hour. Each day in the plan uses that day's own daytime hours, 7 am to 9 pm, and their average temperature, strongest wind and highest chance of rain or snow; a day too far out for the hourly forecast to reach uses that day's forecast high and low instead.
From there, we turn the forecast into a feels-like temperature — using wind chill or heat index when they apply — then adjust it for a steady wind, how cold or warm you run, how active you'll be, and how long you're outside.
That lands you in one of our dressing-temperature ranges, each with a starting outfit, and wind, rain, snow, sun, exercise or a big swing between the day's low and high can then change what's on the card.
