What stays on your device

Dress by Weather has no accounts and no database, and nothing you choose or type here is sent to us. What the site remembers is saved in your browser's local storage, under keys starting with dbw::

• Your settings: how you run (cold, normal or warm), how active you are, how long you're outside, °F or °C, and whether you use the manual-entry form instead of a city.
• Your last city: its name, state and coordinates.
• Forecasts you've looked up, stored with each place's coordinates. A forecast is reused for up to an hour, and a place's forecast-grid lookup for up to 30 days; after that, a fresh one is fetched the next time that place is needed.

These stay in your browser until you clear this site's data, which also resets your settings. The only stored item your browser sends anywhere on its own is your last city's location, as described below.

What leaves your browser

• To the U.S. National Weather Service: the coordinates of the place you picked, rounded to four decimal places, to fetch its forecast. Your browser talks to the Weather Service directly; there's no server of ours in between. On a later visit, if the saved forecast for your last city is more than an hour old, your browser requests that forecast again on its own.
• To this site's host: requests for the site's own pages and code, including the city list, which your browser downloads when you start using the search box. What you type into the search box never leaves your browser.
• To Cloudflare Web Analytics: a record for each page you view here, including pages you move to within the site, described under Analytics.

If you type in the weather yourself, what you type stays in your browser and no location is sent anywhere. Your browser may still fetch a piece of this site's own code if it hadn't finished loading.

As with any website, each of these services sees your IP address when your browser connects to it.

Location

Using your location is optional. Your browser asks for it only when you press "Use my location". The coordinates it returns are treated like a city you picked: used to fetch that forecast and, once it arrives, saved as your last city. If you decline, search for a city or enter the weather by hand instead.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. For each page view it records the page, the site that linked you here, your browser, operating system and device type, your country (worked out from your connection), and how quickly the page loaded and responded. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across other sites.

Cookies

Dress by Weather itself does not set any cookies.

Children

Dress by Weather is not directed at children under 13, and does not collect any account information — from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
